More About YCC
Do you have a set of church beliefs and doctrines?
You'll find a great variety of beliefs and opinions among us, but there are some that we're strongly committed to. For example, we consider the Bible to be God's inspired words and take its teachings very seriously. We believe in a real, personal God who exists in three persons: Father God, the Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. We believe that people need forgiveness for their wrongdoing to have friendship with God, but that God Himself has made a way for that forgiveness through the death of Jesus on the cross! We'd love to talk more with you about these things and will give you a full copy of our doctrinal statement if you'd like.
Who's in charge around here?
We think that this is Jesus' church, and really try to let Jesus be in charge of it, but we also have some human "servant/leaders" with different responsibilities. We have several "Pastor/Elders", paid and unpaid, who as a group provide oversight for church activities. They help with encouraging and counseling people. We have a paid full-time Pastor of Youth and Worship Ministries. We have other leaders of service areas such as Women's Ministries, Outreach Ministries, and Children's Ministries. There is no one "senior minister" as you would find in some churches. Instead, we consider every member to be a minister, as they serve in teaching, bookkeeping, cleaning, or just being a helpful and caring friend.
What kinds of meetings and services do you have?
The real life of the church goes on all the time, 24/7, in homes and at our jobs and throughout our community. A special time each week is our worship service at
10:30am to about 12:00pm Sunday mornings
. It includes contemporary music, spontaneous sharing, prayerful communion, preaching from God's Word, and warm fellowship with friendly people. Join us for lunch after church on 1st and 3rd Sundays. Children have Sunday School during part of the worship service. Youth meetings start at 6:00 Sunday evenings for 6th graders through high schoolers. Many small group meetings (adults, young adults, teens, parents, men, women, prayer) take place throughout the week--see our "News and Updates" page. Fun events like campouts and beach or snow days are common. Ask for details!
How do people join?
We're way more interested in loving people than in getting them to join our church, but it's a delight when new people come. Often, newcomers are at a place of coming to know God better, or are finding healing and forgiveness in their lives. Many people come to our services and even work in church activities for years without formally joining. We're glad for such people. Our pastors do encourage people to eventually find a church where they can fully commit themselves as "members." Becoming a member here can start with reading the church membership statement or inquiring with a Pastor/Elder.
How can I find out more?
Just ask! Check out our
contact
page or call the church at 503-662-3271 or 971-285-1371. People in our services love to answer questions or introduce you to someone else if you stump them. Our Bibles and our loving friendships are free!
